“Seduction is a game of psychology, not beauty, and it is within the grasp of any person to become a master at the game. All that is required is that you look at the world differently, through the eyes of a seducer.” — Robert Green, The Art of Seduction.
We all have the ability to powerfully seduce. Seduction is not about appearance but the way one expresses themselves. There are nine different types of seducers, according to Robert Greene in the Art of Seduction: The Siren, The Rake, The Ideal Lover, The Dandy, The Natural, The Coquette, The Charmer, The Charismatic and The Star. The author claims that everyone attracts through one of these character profiles. Can you find yourself?
THE SIREN
The ultimate fantasy and pure symbol of pleasure. Basically, a woman written by a man. The siren exudes ease and sexuality, performing an ideal of only positive features. They are attractive to those seeking a heightened sense of masculinity. Examples: Cleopatra and Marilyn Monroe.
THE RAKE
Master of language, impulsive and passionate – The Rake will say and do anything to get you to fall for them. Known as the masculine Siren, The Rake uses words to allure through ideals and fantasy. Examples: Don Juan, Christian Grey, or Chuck Bass.
THE IDEAL LOVER
The Ideal Lover’s power lies in their observation. They study your childhood dreams and either become the ideal you longed for, or enable you to achieve your dreams. When they create what you desire, a deep attachment is formed. Examples: Casanova, John F Kennedy. Kennedy and Tony Robbins.
THE DANDY
Free from gender norms, The Dandy attracts through their expression of freedom and rebellion. They express their defiance of social expectations through clothing, opinions, or behaviour. Examples: Rudolph Valentino and Lou Andreas-Salomé.
THE NATURAL
A reminder of childhood– The Natural is light-hearted and spontaneous. They exhibit innocence, openness and may have a talent/skill. They feel familiar and joyful, expressing youthfulness through affection and naivety. Examples: Charlie Chaplin, Paul McCartney, Lil Yachty, Ryan Reynolds.
THE COQUETTE
In the words of Katy Perry, “Cause you're hot then you're cold” – The Coquette claims their victims through expressing interest and then taking it away. They play the ultimate psychological game, hooking you through their inconsistency. Examples: John Mayer and every guy you have muted on Instagram.
THE CHARMER
The Charmer woos your ego. They deeply shower you in validation, praise and support like The Ideal Lover but refrains from any romantic or sexual tension — creating an untouchable enigma. Examples: George Clooney, The Obamas, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jessica Alba, Amanda Seyfried, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
THE CHARISMATIC
Like a shot of espresso, The Charismatic fires up the room. Magnetic in nature, they exude light energy, passion, sexuality and purpose. Examples: Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Robin Williams.
The Star is a celebrity or myth-like presence. The thrill comes from the desire to escape into their fantasy life. Examples: Vincent Chase, Beyonce.
